Rhynehart Roofing Inc. uses a #1 Certi-grade cedar shingle installed on a 5" exposure. These shingles offer a great appearance on any house or building. One problem with the cedar roof is the possibility of cupping and curling...as it is a natural product and there is nothing that can be done to prevent it. These shingles can be installed on a staggered pattern. You can also request these to be shadow-coursed; every row is doubled.

Cedar shakes are a rustic looking shingle and are available in medium, heavy and jumbo weights. The medium shakes, which come in 1/2" and 3/4" thickness, are the most common. The heavy shakes are 3/4" to 1" and jumbo are 1" to 1 1/2" in thickness.

Rhynehart Roofing Inc. installs all of our shake roofs with a shake-liner felt that is woven in between each of the shingles. These shingles are the best to use if you like the rough wood look. Should these shingles curl somewhat it is not as noticeable as the regular cedar shingles due to the already "rough" appearance. All of the shake that we use are the #1 24" shakes, installed on a 10" exposure. There is also a taper-sawn shake available which is a smooth, machine-cut shingle that has the look of the #1 cedar shingle and is 1/2" to 3/4" thick and 24" long. These are also installed with shake-liner and on 10" exposure.
